The correspondence, sometimes illustrated with pen-and-ink caricatures, provides insight into Amelia's teaching career, her extensive summer travels, and her domestic life. A wide swath of middle-class life, culture, work, and political interests of the time, particularly in the Newark, N.J., area, are represented.
